Calistoga Residence Located in Napa Valley, California, the private residence by Boston based architect Ken Kao responds to the climatic factors of orientation combined with passive heating and cooling. Additionally, the residence integrates sprayed color concrete thermal mass walls and floors in addition to clerestory lighting with shaded louvers. The residence also takes advantage of sweeping views of the vineyards and mountains beyond framing vistas through windows and art glass. The buildings, landscaped terraces, and surrounding gardens provide diverse micro-climatic environments throughout the seasons and days. (Photos by Peter Vanderwarker). |
