Corte Madera Residence Designed by sustainably motivated architect Sim Van Der Ryn, this Corte Modera Residence embodies the most comprehensive implementation of “green” building for future construction and design. With a site having views of the San Francisco Bay and Mt. Tamalpais, the clients requested a house which “integrates energy and material conservation, land stewardship and regenerative living systems.” While incorporating the full effects of passive heating and cooling through site orientation, the clients also requested that only reclaimed or certified sustainably harvested wood be used. Reclaimed wood was collected from the original house on site as well as dismantled buildings in the Presidio and the Northwest. Additionally, earth wall construction was employed to minimize cement use and provide an alternative to traditional wood frame construction assemblies. |
