Renewable Energy Division
Redhorse is furthering its commitment to sustainability with its new Renewable Energy Division (R.E.D.). Redhorse R.E.D. will work directly with the Redhorse Constructors team to offer their clients the state-of-the-art in renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions.
In addition, Redhorse R.E.D. now offers the following consulting services:
Renewable Resource Assessments
Wind Energy Mapping
GIS Studies
Feasibility Studies
Power System Design and Modeling
Renewable Resource Assessments
The performance and economic viability of renewable energy systems is site-specific and difficult to judge without the right data. Redhorse R.E.D. can assist you in gathering the data you need to get your project off to the right start.
- Our renewable resource assessments can include the selection, programming, siting, assembly and installation of a custom weather station at your site.
- Correlation to nearby locations can be done for an additional fee.
Wind Energy Mapping
Our Wind Energy Mapping services allow extrapolation of site wind data along complex terrain. This is most effective for localized studies whereas our GIS Studies (link) can be utilized for larger-scale analysis.
Services include:
- CFD mapping of the local wind potential, wind turbine siting and wake modeling
- Wind environmental impact assessment (zones of visual influence, noise level assessment, shadow flicker calculation) for key locations
GIS Studies
Our GIS services include mapping of available renewable resource data along with custom or project-specific data. This analysis is a very effective tool for early siting and prefeasibility assessments of a project’s potential for utilizing a variety of renewable energy technologies.
Feasibility Studies
The goal of our Feasibility Study is to provide recommendations for a clean energy solution for your project. This analysis consists primarily of a high-level review of the local renewable resources, site topography and existing electrical infrastructure (based on data available at the time of study). An estimate of the project economics, energy production and CO2 reductions are presented, as well as any significant potential obstacles.
Our Feasibility study generally contains:
- An overview of applicable technologies for your project
- A discussion of the energy system goals
- Data reviewed / modeling assumptions
- Preliminary findings
Once a client has reviewed the Feasibility Study and has chosen to pursue one of the energy system solutions presented, the next step would be to engage with Redhorse R.E.D. in the Power System Design and Modeling (link) phase.
Power System Design and Modeling
Redhorse R.E.D. specializes in the design and modeling of complex power systems. We have experience in the design and modeling of:
- Renewable power systems: wind, solar, solar hot water, geothermal heating, geothermal electric, diesel generator sets, etc.
- Hybrid power system design / optimization – potentially incorporating multiple distributed generation sources
- Hybrid power systems
- Grid-connected, off-grid systems and microgrids
- Energy storage
- Controllable / deferrable loads
- Estimation of electricity and heating loads associated with proposed development
- Economic analysis (including gathering / assembly of quotes for various subcontractors and consultants)
Redhorse R.E.D. will work with you to develop a custom schematic-level design program that suits your project needs.
