Marin Residence

Architect Alex Seidel and his wife and engineer partner Stacy, designed this waterfront residence in manner which maximized the potential of a small, underutilized lot in Marin.  The couple transformed their property by defining edges, considering verticality equally as important as floor layout, positioning windows to frame views, and selecting finish materials to build upon the house’s relationship with nature.  The architect commented that he “went with a galvanized finish on the steel because of the interesting way it picks up light reflections as they bounce off the water; it has a spectral quality.”  Additionally, construction of the house required a high level of craftsmanship, in order to meet the accuracy requirements of modernist detailing.
